FAQs

I need some help in using the Big Walk App that I downloaded?

Big Team Challenge is the platform we are using for the Big Walk 4 Refugees. There is a “Help” link on the landing page for registrations and in the application. There are videos on using the app and how to sync to common fitness applications. Go to Big Team Challenge and click on “Help” in the top right had corner

Is there a flier I can download to share or print?

Click on the “Resources” Tab and under Promoting your event, there is a link for Materials to Promote your Big Walk. Download the flier and share with friends or family or print and put copies up at your gym or local coffee shop etc.

When should I register?

Register as soon as possible - every step you take over the next six weeks counts. Even if you have an event planned for later in March, the steps that you take everyday - when you are shopping, walking the dogs, doing your gardening - it all counts.

I have organised a walk in my community and would like to share it on the Big Walk for Refugees Calendar?

Go to the “events” tab and click on the link that says “Tell us about your event so we can share on the calendar” and then fill out the template with your event details and we will add it to the calender. Allow as much lead time as possible, we are all volunteers so the more time we have to make updates to the calendar the better for everyone.

How do I sync my Big Walk 4 Refugees app to automatically count steps?

To automatically count steps you need to have a fitness device like a smart watch or a fit bit. You also need to have the relevant application for that device on your phone. Supported Apps include Garmin, Fitbit, Apple Health and Samsung Watch. Once you have installed the Big Walk 4 Refugees app you can follow the prompts to sync to your existing fitness app. More details and videos on how to sync are available under the “Help” tab at Big Team Challenge.

Do I need to be in a team?

Yes, you need to be in a team for your steps to count. Once you are in a team, your steps and kilometres are synced, which propels us around our virtual walk.

Which Team should I be in?

You can either be in a team of a group that you are a member of that is listed when you register or simply select Team Vic, Team NSW, Team SA etc for the state you are in

Can I be in more than one team?

No, you can only be in one team. But the important point is that all participants are working together to complete the virtual walk around Australia. This is not a race against other participants, its a way of sending a message to the politicians in Canberra that 10,000 refugees need permanent Visas now.
